Game 7 vs the Raiders

Today the Tar Heels met with the Raiders again and ran all over them.  Our 1st scrimmage game of the year was against the Raiders (and we won then too!) 

The final score of today's game was 26-6.  The Tarheels won.  JD did great!

 In the top picture JD is behind the kid with the red shirt on.  We had to look for shoes or black arm pads to find him.  This particular picture was taken just before the pile of kids (and ball) were getting ready to move forward for some yards. I wished my camera was quicker so I could catch more sequence pictures.  Because the next thing I saw was JD and the others pushing the ball and pile of boys back and jd landed on top of the pile.  The Raiders were pushed back two yards. 

The bottom picture surprized me when I saw it.  JD broke free from the blockers and was well on his way to reaching the quarterback.  JD told me some kids was holding his arms and shirt to keep a hold of him.  This was one of those times. 

JD had a great game for the short amount of time he played.  I hope he'll get to play more now that one conference is under thier belts.  The next game is 6 Nov at 10 am.

6th game vs the Cowboys

Today the Spring Lake Tar Heels faced the Cowboys. We had a scrimmage against them earlier in the season and won. Today we fought hard to win our game with a final score of 19-13. It was a stressful game for the players, coaches, and parents. After all there is a Championship on the line. Before the game the Tar Heels were tied for first place with three other teams. The Spring Lake Tar Heels have not won a Championship since 1983. (Yep you saw correctly 1-9-8-3.) There’s a lot of pressure on both the players and the coaches as we are the only football team in the age group of 11-12 representing Spring Lake North Carolina. Next week is our final game of the season. Pray for a win…then we’ll deal with the playoff later.

5th Game vs the Trojans

Sat 16 Oct - The Tar Heels beat the Trojans by a score of 34-7.  JD is starting to get a head cold and was not feeling well Friday night and this morning so he just put on his jersey and became a coach for the day.  I couldn't resist this father-son picture.  

4th Game vs the Broncos

The Tarheels faced the Broncos today, and the final score was 18-0.  (I really do feel bad for other teams who do not score during a game.  But I think I'm the only parent out there concerned about that.)

This was a tense game for the players, fans, and I'm sure the coaches. (Right?.. Defensive Coach Hyder?)   

With the score at 18-0 in the fourth quarter only half of the coaches agreed to leave "Blue defense" and "Blue offense" in the game for play time.  (JD is on both "blue" teams.)  Since this in JD's first year playing football I don't quibble over the amount of time he plays in each game.  (If he's not complaining, I won't complain.)  But with a score of 18-0, leave my child in so he can learn to play better.  This is exactly what the head coach and Jeff did!  (If momma's happy...everybody's happy.) I said to one coach, "Aw come on coach, leave 'em in so they can learn to play better."  But I think it bounced right off of him.  He was more interested in "pitching a shut out."  

I love this action picture.  JD was taught to take 'em down at the feet.  The poor Bronco player had nothing more to do but call out, "TIMBER!"

Game 3 (a face off with the Steelers)

The Tar Heels experienced their first loss today.  The Steelers beat them 12 -0.  But our boys never gave up.

Our #53 had a pretty big challenge today.  He was lined up with a "child" who was approximately 220 pounds. (JD is under the wooden play set.)  Pretty big competition today.)

Football - Game 2

The Tar Heels played the Cowboys today.  They beat this team too.  The final score was 13-0.  I'm so proud of my right guard.  He blocked when he needed to and assisted this team to another victory.  This is the first year JD has played football.  I'm proud that he has not said, "I want to quit" yet. Remember he's #53.

A special thanks to Papaw for driving all the way from Tennessee to see JD's game.  It meant a lot to him.

JD's First Game

JD's first game went good for me as a non-football educated woman. We won 12-7. JD played right guard today. It's hard to take poictures and watch the action too. But I managed to scrable for a couple of good pictures.

In this 1st picture he is blocking on the left side of #51.



In this picture he is running in between #15 and #51. They had made a wonderful block that allowed for the first touchdown!

The football scrimmage

Today was the Tar Heel scrimmage in Fayetteville. (Or as JD called it “the skirmish.”) I think they did pretty good. Jeff asked if I was not nervous for JD when he went in. My answer, “No.” I watched him hold his own and do what he was suppose to do. (Stay low and block) I was okay until he became the bottom of the dog pile. There I was a trapped mother bear standing at the fence yelling “Get off!” When I asked JD about what it was like to be at the bottom of a dog pile he said, “I was telling myself ‘there’s the grass.’” He said his feet were free and it was like doing a really hard push-up. I managed to get a few pictures of him, but it’s hard to see him. His number is 53.

One of the other little guys on the team called Coach Jeff over to let him know one of the boys on the other team had a mustache. Another coach heard this and said, “Oh you mean the kid who drove himself here?” (LOL) There were some boys on the other teams that were as big if not bigger than some of the coaches. One lined up with JD. (Okay now I’m nervous!) JD told me later that the other BIG kid was growling at him. (What?!) Jeff thought it was JD, but later learned it was the BIG guy. (Picture below - JD in his position right in front of the big kid in the orange jersey.) The big guy pushed JD down right off the start but JD got up like he had a spring in his butt and ran for the moving ball. (Don’t make me climb this fence.)

JD is the first person in the line. The only girl on our team is #51 (three people behind JD if you can't see the picture well.)
